Multi-functional activators – APF- use the movements and the strength of the forces produced during swallowing, speech, breathing and mastication, as all appliances devised by functionalists, for example those of Robin, Bimler, Balters, Planas...
MODE OF ACTION:
The APF triggers, drives and stimulates the impulses produced by muscular activity.
OBJECTIVE:
To establish occlusal and dental balance. At the same time, APF improves the functions of swallowing, chewing, phonation and nasal breathing. In this way, activators are trully multi-functional. Physiological functional stimulation developed by APF during muscle movements, stimulates the formation of tissues, their adaptation, and their morphology according to the direction, intensity and frequency of these stimuli. This gives the patient the oral balance. The therapist should look at the patient globally in order to set a diagnosis and a treatment plan. He/She should give the same attention and observation of muscular function as included in the conception of the first activators. The goal is to reach the best solution for each patient, and not a global solution for all. The goal is a functional mouth and as aesthetic a result as possible.
